Arboreal forests growth carbon sink and assessment of carbon storage in China’s Henan Province

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Henan province is located in central China and the assessment of its arboreal forests’ carbon sink storage important to sustainable use forest resources. This study used 2018 inventory data estimate biomass storage. The results showed that: (1) By origin, natural lower than that artificial forest. (2) type, Populus L. accounted for highest proportion, together with Mixed broadleaf Quercus spp. 80%. density highest, Cupressus funebris lowest. (3) region, Western southern Southeast (4) has increased 8.891 million tons which equivalent 32.60 dioxide equivalent. paper’s evaluation a valuable reference ecosystems mitigating global climate change.

An Assessment of Carbon Storage in China’s Arboreal Forests

In the years 2009–2013, China carried out its eighth national survey of forest resources. Based on the survey data, this paper used a biomass conversion function method to evaluate the carbon stores and carbon density of China’s arboreal forests. The results showed that: (1) By age group, the largest portion of carbon stores in China’s arboreal forests are in middle-aged forests. Over-mature fo...

Carbon storage in old-growth forests of the Mid-Atlantic: toward better understanding the eastern forest carbon sink.

Few old-growth stands remain in the matrix of secondary forests that dominates the eastern North American landscape. These remnant stands offer insight on the potential carbon (C) storage capacity of now-recovering secondary forests. We surveyed the remaining old-growth forests on sites characteristic of the general Mid-Atlantic United States and estimated the size of multiple components of for...

The carbon sink in intact tropical forests.

To quantify the carbon (C) sink in intact tropical forests, Pan et al. (2011) multiplied ‘...region-specific estimates of C density or change in C density times the associated areas represented by the region-specific estimates.’ A retrospective interpolation based on their numbers provides insight into the possible causes of a C sink in intact tropical forests. First, however, there are two rea...

Investigating Low-Carbon Agriculture: Case Study of China’s Henan Province

Developing low-carbon agriculture requires investigating the trajectory, decoupling statuses, and driving forces of agricultural carbon emissions. This study explored the evolution of agricultural carbon emissions based on 18 kinds of major carbon emission sources in Henan Province of China, which produces approximately one-tenth of China’s total grain output. We then analyzed the relationship ...

A large and persistent carbon sink in the world's forests.

The terrestrial carbon sink has been large in recent decades, but its size and location remain uncertain. Using forest inventory data and long-term ecosystem carbon studies, we estimate a total forest sink of 2.4 ± 0.4 petagrams of carbon per year (Pg C year(-1)) globally for 1990 to 2007. We also estimate a source of 1.3 ± 0.7 Pg C year(-1) from tropical land-use change, consisting of a gross ...
